I would really enjoy feeling more active in Game Planning.
For instance, we set our Play Book for O/D, then we Game Plan against specific plays of our Opponents.
I would like to add a Layer to that Play Book, which is the plays we actually practice THAT WEEK for our Opponents. This would be smaller than are play book and would come with two parts.
The first part would be the extra Knowledge of the Play being gained. A boost to all the players on both sides of the ball. The second part would be a small boost to success chances THAT WEEK ONLY.
How many of these plays, and I would put a limit, say no more than 10 just like in Game Planning, would be determined by the ability of your Head Coach. Say every 10 Points of Over All is 1 Play (just to toss it out there), so having a 60 HC limits you to 6 of these plays, while having an 88 HC would get you 8 of these Plays.
I'd also like it to be just that, X Plays TOTAL. Not X for Offense and X for Defensive (unless we shift it off the HC and put it on the Coordinators... but the HC is the guy running the gig, so it's his Effective Time Management that allows for this practice time... the OC/DC should affect the Effectiveness Bonus).
That way you have to decide... do you stay balanced? Do you find X Offensive Only to really build that side? Commit completely to defense?
With the Play Book Knowledge this is good for everyone, but the Bonus Effectiveness adds to wrinkles. The old 'Bread and Butter', your 'Go To' play is the obvious. Stick I Form HB Slam in there and run it all year so every weak you have a slight advantage with it, since you run such a basic play a lot.
But also your 'trick play' or 'gothcha!' play. Sure, you're a Run First team, but you are facing the 32nd Pass Defense... so you work hard all week adding a few Plays that you might have no knowledge for... well, you won't master them in a Week but the combination of a little Knowledge AND the Effectiveness Boost could get that PA All Streaks to connect for a big gain or two to attack his weakness.
I think it adds more Depth, and there is a variety of ways to do this. HC could control it all, or HC just influences amount of plays while OC/DC influence Bonus Effectiveness (Non-Physical Attribute Boosts on selected plays only during that week).
It also makes Coaches more valuable... a Vet Team might be looking for the best Bonus, while a Rebuild might forego those guys for the best Core Stat Improvement Coaches they can find.
Just a thought.
