When a new league forms, it seems like coaches are automatically assigned to teams in a specific order: HC > OC > DC > QB > RB > OL > WR > TE > DL > LB > DB > K
I think this should be less "standard".
What I mean by this is that instead of just going through the list above the coaches should be assigned in a manner similar to:
HC Each team gets the best HC candidate available.
OC / DCEach team selects the best coordinator available, and then the "other" coordinator position. OC > DC
or DC > OC.
Position CoachesEach team selects the best position coach available (non-kicker), in any order. If the best position coach available is a WR coach, then he is hired as a WR coach. This way the coaching positions are filled in any order instead of what appears to be the same order for every team.
OR
The HC determines the order in which the coaches are hired based on his coaching style. EX: A run focused HC may want to get RB / OL filled out first, etc, etc.
KickerThe last coach chosen is for kickers.
The point is that I think it would be better if the coaches weren't filled out the same way every time.
Another option would be the ability to swap your coaches from one position to another without having to fire/re-hire. Maybe this would be an option only prior to an allocation draft.
