It seems like any change to the predetermined plays is a big ask. It's not the first time people have asked for the ability to make their own plays, to no avail.
Perhaps more realistically, people have asked for:
- Run-and-gun offense. Don't let us assume that when we see four receivers, we're automatically getting a pass. This would be more historically significant than the full-house backfield.
- Fake punts. People can get away with putting tiny, fast rushers on the line is because they never have to play defense.
I would also like to see:
- Motion. IRL, it happens all the time. But, in MFN, pre-snap motion never happens at all.
- Varying kickoffs. All offsides kicks get lofted to the left. IRL, teams are smarter than that, and offsides kicks never go out of bounds. The crazy formations we used to see have been outlawed, but the occasional surprise could keep us honest. In addition, players in the wedge never have to handle the ball, because there are no pooch kicks. There is no reason to put tight ends or fullbacks back there. If the occasional surprise were allowed, people could not automatically assume a straight-up kickoff is happening. The resulting exploits are not as oppressive as punt blocking, but they happen because kickoffs are painfully predictable.
