I've often thought of this.
I'd like to see something like this.
Round 1: 12 Hours, 12 Hour Break (1 24 Hour Day, to allow for Trades and Adjustments after the Top Players are gone).
Round 2: 12 Hours, 12 Hour Break (same as 1).
Round 3-7: 24 Hours.
3 Days and your Draft is completed, you have time to wheel and deal and change boards after Rounds 1 and 2 where most of the Legit Talent will be taken. Rounds 3-7 will be more rapid fire, most deals I find are done in the 3rd with less and less Trades coming after that because there can still be good value or people trying to kick a pick forward a Season into a higher round (3rd now for a 2nd later).
I'd like FA Period to be 3 Days and Late FA to be 2 Days, so 3 Phases and 2 Phases each running for 24 Hours and done. Most of the Top Talent is gone by Period 2 of FA, with some guys in big contract battles hanging around until Period 3. Then it's really nothing left that doesn't kick a ball... until some After Draft Cuts, which again really only takes 1 Day to clean out.
I do understand and get reset times and down time to adjust Rosters, and some guys (myself included) like to make big Draft Plans and FA Plans before going into the period (which never happen, but hey... it was fun coming up with the Plan!) and some go deeper and break out a spread sheet and an abacus. And all of that is fine, like I said I do a bit of that myself, and if I were smarter I'd do more (Maff r hardz, mm'kay).
But the amount of down time and waiting can be a let down (and is exactly why I have 2 Teams, but even then I don't always have something to do as one is in FA Period and the other is in Late FA Period, my Draft Board is set in the first and all the FAs are gone (or my bid is in) in both.
I absolutely get why guys have 3+ Teams... the down time. They can't hack it, so they get another team to try to cover the gaps.
Plus, you'd go in KNOWING it's a Turbo League... so if you require FA to be 5 Days, then cool. Simply wouldn't be the League for that person.
I'd be all about a League like this.
