Drafts: Booms and Busts + Volatility

It doesn't really matter how much volatility a player has, it seems like a coin toss if they boom or bust? That coin lands the wrong side an awful lot.

Any chance we can improve the chances of landing more boomers?

I honestly feel like keeping the normal starting average at around 75-80 at most is the most healthy for the game. It means the stars are real stars and that you don't need A+ talent on every position to compete.

If we were to get more boomers, I'd assume we'd have to lower the starting levels. I'd rather play in a league full of 70's than one where your starters were 85-99 and backups 50.

For sure. I mean players that aren't even scrubs by the end of season 2. You need a core of elites then a team of reasonably ranked players , anything from 50s - 70s.

My main point though is that too many players bust. I've just had a draft and extra picks , out of ten draft picks 9 bust. This was about the 3rd draft where this happened, this is not sustainable for me to keep a team running, unless I dedicate hours doing it.

I'm losing interest in MFN fast.

Volatility is a linear distribution between -100 and 100 (and you see the absolute value of it on the card) so it should be 50/50 boom/bust.

As randomly strong a wealk drafts are at times. Has me thinking the volatility has to have more or less boom/busters as well. If you counted all the potential draftees ratios of boom/bust a bad or good draft might have slightly higher or lower amounts due to randomly generated player? Or Maybe alot of boomers were super low rated players... or a lot of the busts were higher rated to begin with? I don’t think anything moderates that . Expect the player generation.

Lately I hit on a lot of boomers, but I think it’s still 50/50 as I been through a lot of drafts. I never heard of a user just killing draft after draft. So, I bet we’re all in the same boat.

Lol, I'm just super great at picking busts then. I pay no attention to volatility at all, as you say its meant to be 50/50.

Is it 50/50 per position group or as a whole?

Just wondering how many of these "booms" are players rated <40 and their boom shoots them up to 50.

The assignment of volatility is independent of any other process in the player generation, although it does have a chance to get pushed towards its limit if the player gets selected in a later round. When that happens, it will stay on the same side of zero.

Could someone please translate into layman`s terms what JDB`s reply means by "stay on the same side of zero" ?

Thank you.

Increase means over 0
Decrease is below 0.

The point is that Draft position increases the chance of reaching the limits of Volatility points gained or lost (compared to the skills on Draft day), but it doesnt change the chance of being a boom or a bust.
Boom or Bust are inborn traits. Volatility will be different according to the round he's drafted
