Buffalo 2014

I took over Buffalo in the offseason. The team is not great, but not terrible. Some good talent to build around, but still many holes and a lot of depth problems. Overall, a team that I am happy to work with.

In my discussion of the team, I will not that I feel players over 90 are stars, between 80-90 are better than average starters, between 70 and 80 are starting quality, and everything less is depth type players.

So, I got this roster with 3 star players (K, RG, WR), 4 quality starters (P, DT, LT, WR), and 8 starters (QB, RT, C, SS, RB, TE, TE, DE). 15 out of 22 positions locked up with starting quality players or better. Of those 15 players, 3 have been in the league 10 or more seasons. So, positions I need to upgrade my starters are: FB, LG, LDE, DT, SLB, MLB, WLB, CB, CB, FS.

During the free agency period, I resigned most of my top tier players to multi year deals, creating a core group of players to build around. I didn't sign any free agents, but now that I look back, I think I should have and missed some opportunities.

Draft time.

At 1.13, I drafted RT Donald Jones, and moved him to LG. He improved slightly moving to guard, and is currently 39/85. An upgrade I'm very happy with, giving me a very good offensive line.

At 2.12, I drafted FS David Biddle, and moved him to CB. While still not in the quality starter range, I have him at 25/68, and he will come out, most likely, as my #1 CB. So, we improve our position, but still are weak at CB overall.

In round 3, I wasn't able to update my draft list with iPad, since I can't move guys around in the draft... so we got whatever the AI wanted to give us. For some reason, we have 3 RB and the AI drafted a 4th... we needed a 6th WR so we moved him to WR. Unless he booms, he won't last long on the team.

Rounds 4 and 5.

At 4.14, we draft G Robert Alexander, and move him to RT. He'll add some solid depth on our offensive line at 20/69.

At 5.13, we draft DT Alfredo Shaw and move him to LDE and will hopefully add depth at 25/59.

Alexander was a really good pickup for us in the 4th round.. Shaw is a roster filler. Maybe he'll stay around, maybe he'll be replaced soon.

After two games in preseason, our offense is working exactly as we'd hoped. We have zero points scored so far, and we will try to see if we can do it 4 preseason games in a row.
