New Orleans secured a commanding 43-3 victory over Los Angeles (N) in the Wild Card round of the 2075 playoffs on December 29. The home team overwhelmed the visitors with a balanced attack and a strong defensive performance.
New Orleans head coach Wallace Cole saw his team jump out to a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter. Quarterback Zachary Himes connected with Mark Vaughn for a 20-yard touchdown pass at 7:17. The extra point by kicker Thomas Hernandez was good, setting the tone for the game.
Los Angeles responded with a 53-yard field goal by Jared Thomas at 5:13, cutting the deficit to 7-3. However, New Orleans quickly pulled away. Hernandez added three more field goals in the second quarter from 25 and 22 yards, extending the lead to 13-3.
New Orleans added two touchdowns before halftime. Himes threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Luis Hunt at 1:30, followed by Hernandez's extra point, making it 20-3 going into the break.
The New Orleans defense dominated throughout, not allowing any touchdowns and registering 13 sacks. They forced a key interception at the start of the third quarter by John Byrd, who also recorded a tackle during the return. Later, Clinton Whitfield intercepted a pass from Los Angeles quarterback Daniel Delacruz at midfield.
On offense, Himes completed 25 of 43 passes for 342 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Running back Larry Rozier led the ground game with 80 rushing yards and added 38 receiving yards. Philip Pusey contributed 70 rushing yards and one receiving touchdown. Meanwhile, Luis Hunt recorded two rushing touchdowns and 40 receiving yards.
New Orleans converted all three field goal attempts and avoided any scoring lapses in the red zone. Their seven penalties accounted for 50 yards but did not hinder a dominant performance.
Los Angeles struggled offensively, managing only 206 passing yards and 11 rushing yards. Quarterback Delacruz threw no touchdown passes and was intercepted twice. Their defense recorded three sacks and one forced fumble, but turnovers and New Orleans’ control of the game limited their impact.
This victory allows New Orleans to advance in the Wild Card round, where they will continue their postseason campaign. Coach Wallace Cole’s team showcased a commanding performance on both sides of the ball and minimal mistakes, positioning themselves well for future playoff challenges.
